THORACIC OUTLET SYNDROME

GLOSSARY
G
Gabapentin – an anticonvulsive drug that has been prescribed for the nerve pain in treatment of TOS
glabrous skin receptors – (Pacinian corpuscles, Meissner’s corpuscles, Merkel’s discs, Ruffini endings) a mechanoreceptor is a sensory receptor that responds to mechanical pressure or distortion. Normally there are four main types in glabrous mammalian skin.
gold standard test – In medicine and statistics, gold standard test usually refers to a diagnostic test or benchmark that is the best available under reasonable conditions. Other times, gold standard is used to refer to the most accurate test possible without restrictions.
golgi tendon organs GTO (neurotendinous organ, neurotendinous spindle) – a proprioceptive sensory receptor organ that senses changes in tension in the area of the muscle tendon junction.
golgi tendon reflex – The Golgi tendon reflex is a normal component of the reflex arc of the peripheral nervous system. In a Golgi tendon reflex, skeletal muscle contraction causes the agonist muscle to simultaneously lengthen and relax. This reflex is also called the inverse myotatic reflex, because it is the inverse of the stretch reflex.
Gonstead technique – a chiropractic technique in which thrusts are directed in the direction opposite to that of the complaint area. X-rays assist the chiropractor in pinpointing the area to be treated.
grade-2 posterior disc protrusion – focal herniation of the disc.
Grostic – The Grostic procedure provides a system of care for the upper cervical spine, developed in the early 1940’s by Dr. John F. Grostic.
Guyon’s Tunnel – entrapment of the ulnar nerve in the Guyon canal as it passes through a tunnel (also known as Guyon’s canal or tunnel), which is a semi-rigid longitudinal canal in the wrist that allows passage of the ulnar artery and ulnar nerve into the hand.
